What happens when your hobby is similar to your spouse's profession? Probably not much. That's what happened when the missus stopped being a banker and began a career as a music instructor and paid performer. Back in the nineteen-hundreds the missus & I used to play music together in church groups, at wedding ceremonies, and in pit bands for community theater productions. As children arrived and the missus jumped careers we stopped playing together and eventually I started looking for a band for the first time in my life. Our music lives were clearly separated and the first time she has ever heard a song I've written for the band has either been at a performance or from a studio recording.

The missus got short neck Epiphone bass for Christmas (yes [info]buhbulls, I'll get a picture of Angie playing it) for the purposes getting her chops up to also teach bass guitar and so we could play together. Last night we started going through our short list of songs and it went well. It turns out that I still like playing with my wife.

But I don't know how I'd feel if she starts maintaining computer systems for a hobby.
